Overview
As the first Tribal Court in the region, the Quinault Tribal Court has a long history of serving the Quinault Nation and Community by delivering justice efficiently in a manner that incorporates Quinault tradition and culture. The Court staff work diligently to provide services always recognizing that a restorative approach to justice results in long-term positive results for Quinault families and the community. The Court’s commitment to restorative justice is evidenced by its trifecta Wellness Court system. The Quinault Tribal Court is one of less than ten Tribal Courts in the Country with Family, Adult Criminal, and Juvenile Wellness Courts. In addition to processing all civil and criminal cases that fall within the Jurisdiction of the Quinault Nation and operating the three Wellness Courts, the Court also provides the following important services.
- Sacred Circles for both adults and youth
- Truancy Program
- Legal Aid for Domestic Violence Survivors
- Cultural Activities for Court Participants/Defendants
- Probation Services
- Low or no cost Mediation Services
- TYPES OF CASES HEARD BY THE COURT
- Civil: The civil matters heard in the court include but are not limited to divorce, guardianship, custody, child support, determination of paternity, name change, business contracts, personal injury, probate of non-trust property, and traffic citations/infractions.
- Criminal: The Quinault tribal court's procedures shall determine the requirements for communication regarding adult criminal matters in tribal court proceedings. Criminal cases include misdemeanor cases involving Indians that occur within Tribal jurisdiction.
- Juvenile court: Child Dependency cases, juvenile offenses, and truancy vision.
