The overall goal of the Quinault Indian Nation fish hatcheries is to aid in the restoration and enhancement of QIN fisheries, and to produce fish in numbers that will help to rebuild diminished runs and provide harvest opportunity for all QIN member fishers. Tribal hatcheries incubate and rear salmon to supplement fish populations in the rivers while ongoing studies investigate potential causes for declines in abundance of these species.
Responsibilities
We work hard in our efforts to change the course of decreasing populations, so that strong and thriving populations can exist again in the Quinault reservation waterways. This work includes operating two fish hatcheries:
- The Lake Quinault Hatchery (Pen Rearing, established 1982) which provides fish for the Quinault River;

- The Salmon River Fish Culture Facility (established 1995) which provides fish for the Queets River system.
